Amy Amori Piñon
I am a photographer, documentary filmmaker, and artist based in Seattle, Washington, on Duwamish Land.
Photography first became my professional work at an arts nonprofit when I was asked to visually document youth arts programs. I soon became the organization’s in-house photographer, documenting dozens of arts classes and programs throughout 5 years in the role.
Now, with over 10 years of experience, I thrive on documenting candid moments. I’ve photographed countless arts events, live performances, fundraisers, behind-the-scenes and more. I’ve also provided accessible sliding scale based portraits and frequently offer free or deeply discounted services to values-aligned organizations because I believe in using my skills to give back to my community where I can.
I also ventured into the film realm through nonprofit communications work – producing fundraising videos. Through this, I learned about the ethics of storytelling just as much as the technical aspects of camera angles and editing. When that type of work no longer resonated with me, I started a new chapter of self-producing projects and taking on more experimental gigs.
Reminiscent of the fundraising videos I used to produce, I have a love for the raw interview-based storytelling form of documentary. My first documentary project, “And Other Oppressive Dynamics,” is about healing from the cycle of nonprofit harm, and won Best Feature Documentary at the Local Sightings Film Festival in 2022.
I am a founding member of House of Kilig – a trans and queer POC centered artistic collective, where I lead the cinematography and contributed to the vocal sound score for projects like i was never the siren, a dance film that centers the siren archetype through a queer and trans lens.
Since leaving the nonprofit industrial complex, I’m making more work that reflects my personal experiences with capitalism, body image, and disrupting institutions. I am currently working on a fashion show documentary while being a model in the show myself. My personal photography was recently featured in the Divine Bodies Exhibition at M. Curry Designs.
My other artistic projects include fiber arts; I am developing a crochet-based fashion collection and punch needle art; digital illustration; my work has been featured at Nepantla Gallery and Pan(*)cha zine; and music; I am always singing and slowly working on a solo debut.
I am also a regular volunteer with Sustainable Renton, helping to move thousands of pounds of food per month to create more food access across Renton.
Many Mori aims to bring all my personal and professional endeavors as a multidisciplinary artist together under one name.
Whatever I’m working on, I fight to bring my voice and physical body into spaces that have historically rejected it.
